Both tests are reading-intensive, cover algebra I and II, geometry, and trigonometry, and include an optional writing section that many colleges require. The difference however comes in a student’s test-taking strengths and weaknesses.
SAT allows more time per question compared to the ACT, but are less straight forward then the ACT. On the other hand, the ACT has a science section dedicated to critical thinking skills, while the SAT’s math section includes a data analysis section. ACT allows for the students to use a calculator for all math problems, while the SAT allows the use of a calculator for specific questions.
What matters to colleges ?
The majority of colleges accept both, and have no preference. This allows for you teen to choose the test they are most comfortable with. The right test for your child to take depends on their strengths. There are free SAT and ACT test prep material online, have your child take both, and get an early idea of which is the best fit for them. Pre-Sat and Pre-Act tests are also given at several high schools and test sites. Keep in mind your child may take both. #sat #act #collegeentranceexams #sunlifecoaching #iamgrounded
